Songs were offered to record labels and other artists through an agent from Big Yellow Dog Records agent at the age of 17. Decker was just 17 when she snagged the attention of a representative from Big Yellow Dog Records, who started selling her tracks to labels and artists. On August 9, 2009 Decker launched her self-titled debut album under the name Jessie James. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut record. Wanted, a song from the album reached the Top 40 singles chart. Decker always thought of herself as a singer from the country genre however, the album's promotion and production was targeted at an audience more influenced by pop. Decker's music was under greater attention after the launch of two singles. The following track, Boys in the Summer was a country-inspired track. The album of Decker, Daughter of a Gypsy (or Sweet American Dreams), was dropped by Mercury after two singles didn't chart on country charts.
