Her birthplace and childhood were within South Carolina. After completing her studies in undergraduate in Clemson University, Kelly went further to complete a master's in Broadcast Journalism at The University of Miami. Kelly was fascinated by television and the glamorous careers associated with it. This dream began in her childhood.
